Islam recognizes that breastfeeding, childbirth, lack of sleep, physical recovery, and caring for a baby can be exhausting for a mother. A husband should be compassionate, patient, and considerate of his wife's physical and emotional condition. Allah says: “Live with them in kindness” (Qur'an 4:19).
However, breastfeeding by itself is not generally considered a reason to completely deny a spouse's marital rights indefinitely. Marriage involves mutual rights and responsibilities. If a woman is ill, in pain, exhausted, recovering from childbirth, or facing genuine physical or emotional difficulties, these circumstances should be discussed openly and compassionately. The husband should not pressure her, and the wife should not unnecessarily neglect her husband's rights. The Islamic approach is mutual understanding, mercy, and cooperation—not demands from one side and neglect from the other.
May Allah bless husbands and wives with love, mercy, patience, and understanding, and make their homes places of tranquility and barakah. Ameen 🤲
And Allah knows best.
