How to Share Location from Google Maps

Google Maps has a feature to share the location of the Android device with Contacts. This feature can be used in a variety of situations, such as at a family get-together at an unfamiliar place, or at a specific place to meet a friend.

Location sharing using Google Maps

You can share location with any of your Google Account contacts. However, if you do not have a contact's Google account, then the process will be a little different. But that will also be possible. In this post we will learn how to share location using Google Maps in both situations.

If you have a Google account

  • Access the Google Maps app from your Android device. If you haven't already logged in to your Google Account, log in
  • Tap on the profile picture icon in the top right corner of the screen, now you will see a menu
  • From the menu that appears, tap on the “Location Sharing” option

  • At this stage of the process, you need to select how long you want to keep the location share running. You can select the time of your choice by tapping the + and - buttons. Location sharing will no longer work after the time selected here
  • Also, if you select "Until you turn this off", the location sharing feature will remain on until you turn it off
  • Now select the contact with whom you want to share the location and tap on Share

Diameter, became location sharing! It will share location using GPS . The contact you shared the location with will see your location on the map when they enter the Google Maps app.

Location Sharing can be turned off from the Location Sharing menu. When you enter the menu and tap the "X" next to the name of the person you shared the location with, location sharing will stop. Remember, you can turn off location sharing at any time you like. However, if you are not a close friend or family member, it is better not to share location.

If you do not have a contact Google account

The process will be a bit different if the person you want to share the location with doesn't have a Google Account. If your contact does not have a Google Account, it will not be displayed on Google Maps Contacts. Let us know how to share location even if you do not have contact's Google account.

  • Access the Google Maps app from your Android device. If you haven't already logged in to your Google Account, log in
  • Tap the profile picture icon in the top right corner to see a menu
  • From the menu that appears, tap on the “Location Sharing” option
  • Select the “Share Location” option
  • Now select how long you want to share the location
  • Then you will see some app icons below the contact list, keep scrolling there as well
  • When you find the “Copy to clipboard” option, select it, the location sharing link will be saved in the clipboard.
  • Now if you give that link to any person, he will see your location
  • In addition to the Copy to clipboard option, you can directly select any app and send location sharing links to friends or family through that app.

In the case of the process described earlier, location sharing can be stopped by entering the Location Sharing option and tapping on the "X" next to the contact's name.
