A mysterious island named Rapa Nui, situated about 3,500 kilometers away from Chile's mainland, there are more than 900 giant stone statues on the island, called Moai (pronunciation: Mo-i). The height of each statue is 10-33 feet, weighing up to 80 tons. The statues are made of a kind of volcanic tuff, cut from the Rano Raraku volcano on the island. The statues are usually long, ears big, and eyesight — as if staring at a god or horizon. Many of them have body parts lying under the ground — during digging in 2012 it appeared that Moai statues have full bodies, not just heads!
These statues were built by the Rapa Nui race — an ancient Polynesian community, who likely settled here between 1100-1500 B.C.
The biggest mystery is —
How is it possible to cut, carve and move such huge stone from one place to another?
The idea of scientists,
They used rope and wooden rollers to roll the rocks.
Some researchers said the statues were “pulling away” — pulling one side, then on the other, slowly moving forward (this strategy proved successful in the test today).
The locals believed, the idols walked themselves through a spiritual force called "Mana".
The Moai statues were assumed as memorials of men.
Each statue is a symbol of an important personality, leader or spiritual guide.
They had faith — these statues keep an eye on the islanders and protect them.
Now it seems, many statues are facing towards the village from the sea, as if they are guarding the village people.
Rapa Nui people cut all their forests, for making and transporting these statues. So with time, forests, land decay, agriculture downfall and civil war begins.
Their civilization was destroyed in the 17th century, and European sailors came to discover the island in the 18th century.
A Dutch adventurer (Jacob Roggeveen) found the island on Easter Sunday in 1722 — from where it’s called Easter Island.
Still many people ask questions—
Why are some statues lying unfinished?
Why do some face to the sea, and some to the village?
Is the concept of “Mana” power indication of any real ancient technology?
Some think this was made with aliens help
Though there is no proof — the mystery is still unsolved.
Today Easter Island was recognized as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The island is now a symbol — a symbol of human creativity, faith, and responsibility to nature.
People around the world come to see those mysterious eyesight...
Where the silent faces of the rock still want to say something... But what he wants to say... No answer to that question.
I just decorated the information from Google, Chat GPT and YouTube. Added different photos from Google and Chat GPT.
