Key guidelines for writing an effective résumé

In this post, we're sharing an overview and key guidelines for writing an effective résumé, along with the main differences between a résumé and a CV.

The best resume format

1. Layout – Simple & Clean
• Resume যেন দেখতে পরিপাটি হয়। পরিষ্কার headings ব্যবহার করা।

2. Font & Size নির্বাচন
• Arial, Calibri বা Times New Roman ফন্ট।
• Body text: 10–12 pt, Headings: 14–16 pt রাখলে সবচেয়ে professional দেখায়।

3. Margins সেট করা
• চারদিকে ১ ইঞ্চি (২.৫৪ সেমি) মার্জিন রাখা এতে layout balance থাকে এবং সুন্দর লাগে।

4. Alignment & Header অংশ
• সব লেখাকে left alignment এ রাখা যেন পড়তে সহজ হয়।
• Contact details (নাম, ফোন নম্বর, professional email, LinkedIn প্রোফাইল) সবসময় পৃষ্ঠার উপরে দেয়া।

5. Bullet Points ব্যবহার
• প্রতিটি section-এ নিজের skills, achievements ও responsibilities bullet আকারে লেখা এতে employer দ্রুত স্ক্যান করতে পারে।

6.File Format ঠিক
• Resume Ta সবসময় PDF ফরম্যাটে save & submit করা যাতে ফরম্যাটিং নষ্ট না হয়।

Step by step guide to writing a great resume

1. Personal details / contact information
• Include your name, phone number, professional email, and LinkedIn profile.

2. Career objective
• A brief (1–2 sentences) statement about your career goals and the type of role you’re seeking.

3. Professional summary
• Highlights your strengths, experience, and value to the employer.

4. Skills summary
• Use a bulleted list to highlight your most relevant skills, tools, and competencies.
5. Education & qualifications
• Shows your academic background and credentials.
• Creates a list of your degrees or certifications, including the qualification name, institution, year of completion.

6. Work experience
• Provides evidence of what you’ve done and achieved.
• Present your work history in reverse chronological order (most recent first). Include employer name, job title, dates, and a few bullet points on key responsibilities and results.

7. References
• You can simply write: “References available upon request.” Recruiters will ask for details when needed.
